MiLK

Description:

MiLK as the screenshot implies, is a way for educators to employ simple web and mobile technologies in their classrooms.

It’s a flash based suite of tools that allow students and educators to create quizzes and games played via SMS or mobile web, and participate in forums based around classrooms and created activities. All these activities take place within a secured environment, accessible at a school level.

MiLK was also a Top 3 Finalist (Innovation Award, Secondary Category) at the Handheld Learning Conference in the UK! See how good it is here.

Skills:

Wordpress, Photoshop, phpBB

Role:

Interaction Design
MiLK actually began as CipherCities. This later evolved into a seperate set of tools that were to be marketed specifically to educators.

My primary role in this project was to work with the team in guiding the development of the interface to meet the intention of designing something that was structured, attractive and easy to just pick up and use.

Usability / Participant Observation
MiLK’s development has been punctuated by a series of trials and evaluations. During trials, I observed participants in their use of the interface and made recommendations for changes where needed.

Site Development
This involved the creation of a Wordpress based website (less the front page) and a forum that could be used as a means of user support. All these were created with existing graphics.
