My Problem With the iPhone

I don’t own an iPhone, but sometimes I toy with the idea of getting one.

One of the things stopping me is that the platform is just so closed.

There’s going to be Flash for Android and Flash for Windows Mobile, but what about Flash for the iPhone?

It’s true that mobile Safari is a great browser with so much functionality, but the fact that it lacks support for what is seen as a common media format really irks me. Why would I buy such a powerful multimedia phone when it doesn’t support the richest media sites?

The other thing is that I think of the iPhone as not just a phone, but a mobile entertainment device, kind of like a DS or PSP, but only for casual gaming. Something that will keep you distracted while waiting for the bus. It’s very much a tool for urban commuters. I drive, so having the iPhone wouldn’t really benefit me all that much.

Sure it’s a pretty phone and it’s got all sorts of cool apps, but for now I’ll just stick to my old Symbian based phone.
