Yashica Viewfinder on my LX3

LX3 with Viewfinder

In my previous weekend in review, I told of my adventures in camera buying.

That evening I went to dig up a Yashica lens kit that I tried to sell off unsuccessfully some years back to see if the lenses would fit. As it turned out, the lenses didn’t fit. But I did discover that the lens kit came with a viewfinder. I then decided to see if the viewfinder would fit.

I actually almost decided to get a G10 instead of the LX3 because of the lack of a proper viewfinder, so to find out that I could have a viewfinder on my LX3 for free instead of the $200+ it would cost me on eBay was a big bonus.

Turned out that the viewfinder was a perfect fit. It not only slid right into the mount, but displayed a very similar crop to what you’d see on the LCD. So I was pretty lucky, but what about the LX3’s pop up flash?

As you can see, the flash does have more than enough ample clearance.

The downside? Clearly it won’t display zoom and focus. If you use auto focus most of the time, or you just want to capture an image that you can crop later, then this is the thing for you. I imagine it would also be good if you just want people to be jealous of your camera.

I’m yet to take any proper pictures with this, but I’ll probably try it out at my sister’s graduation this evening. Can’t wait to give it a go!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering… the accompanying Yashica lenses are the Y405 and Y406.

More of my LX3 pics.

UPDATE: I’ve also put a hotshoe flash on the LX3

    Hi,

its been a year now since your article above. Are you still using the viewfinder regularly with the LX3? Is the viewfinder bright and clear? How does it correspond to the 24mm focal length?
