It was altogether a rather well spent weekend.
Friday night was Australia. The 3 hour long epic of a movie. Despite initial worries that I would have to go to the bathroom midway through, I managed to sit through the movie without any problems. It’s not that I have bladder problems, but just that I usually drink lots of water over dinner, especially on Fridays because I go running in the evening.
Anyway, despite some rather bad American reviews, Australia turned out to be quite an enjoyable movie. It worked out to be a good deal because it’s practically like watching two movies in one. In a nutshell, the characters had to work out a problem with cows, followed by problems with the Japanese air force as well as racism.
Saturday morning we thought of going to the market, but it only remained a thought because we eventually decided to stay at home. We were quite exhausted after watching the epic Australia. On a side note, the DP1 that I bought on eBay Australia impuslively earlier in the week was sold again on eBay US with a tidy profit. All thanks to the imbalanced exchange rate.
With my new found riches, I was going to buy another camera off eBay. This time the Panasonic LX3. Why an LX3? Well because I’ve owned the LX1, and LX2 and I have been quite satisfied with both, despite the noise issues at higher ISOs. The LX3 apparently has some of these issues somewhat resolved so I thought I’d give it another go.
But I didn’t buy the camera off eBay, because I was rushed off to Indooroopilly Mall. My mum wanted to do some shopping and Sang Boon didn’t want to stay at home so we ended up going to the mall for a walk.
At the mall we habitally visit the pet store to look at the cute puppies and kittens they have on sale, so we went and had a look. After the pet store visit, we usually pop into Harvey Norman, but just to have a look because I think that things there are just too expensive to be worth buying.
This time however, I was proven wrong! I saw the LX3 on display at the camera counter, so I decided to have some hands on before going home to buy it on eBay. The label said that the camera was $749, which kind of works out to be cheaper than eBay, plus I’d be able to get tax off at the airport, so I thought maybe it would be a good deal to buy it. Then the salesperson said that they only had that one camera left, so they would be able to give me a discount of another 10%. This meant that the camera would only come up to about $674. What a bargain! The camera had only taken about 70 pictures and was in otherwise brand new condition, so I said I would think about it and went off to Myers to look at coffee machines.
Sang Boon knowing how impulsive I can be, told me to think about it when we were at Myers. So I did, and it still seemed to work out to be a good deal. So we went back to Harvey Norman. This time the salesperson was talking to an old fellow who was looking to buy a prosumer. One of the cameras he was looking at was the LX3! So I got a little worried, but luckily the old man decided to think about it. This was his mistake because the camera was now mine!
The camera would come in handy because Saturday night was the night of the big Christmas party at Mervyn’s place. There is just too much to tell, so it might be best to refer to the pictures.
Sunday was pretty much a write off. I felt quite dehydrated despite not drinking all that much on Saturday night so we spent the morning recovering. Then we went to Mount Coottha where I developed a massive headache, and went home to take a nap. Being lazy is sometimes a good way to spend Sundays. I only wish I had more time so I can go camping again.
